October 2008: India Soundpad Project with John Leckie and Dan Austin
Advaita recorded two tracks at the Yash Raj, Mumbai with British producers John Leckie and Dan Austin (who has worked with artists like the Doves and Massive Attack) as part of the India Soundpad project. This is without doubt ‘the’ most exhilarating experience of our musical careers as both the producers lived up to their reputations in the way the recording process was conducted. The sonic difference in the way everything sounded was noticeable. The two new songs recorded are called Just Enough and Colourful and will be released in a compilation (along with the three other bands chosen for this project) both in India and abroad. There is also planning going on for the bands to tour the UK in the summer of 2009.

January 2006 : Suhail and Anindo play with Talvin Singh at Jaipur Viraasat Festival

After finishing their performance at Turquoise Cottage sometime in December 2005, the band was pleasantly surprised to find they had a visitor in the form of the international superstar and ‘fusion music’ stalwart, Talvin Singh. Apparently he had read an article on the band and thought the music could be interesting. Talvin had in-fact also interacted and played with Suhail, and his family when he was a little kid (not that he isn’t a little kid now).

One thing led to another and soon the two ‘prodigies’ of the band, Anindo (keys) and Suhail (Sarangi), were off to Jaipur to play with the tabla sensation for the prestigious Jaipur Viraasat Heritage Festival (where Advaita had played the previous year). The concert was, in a word, ‘fantastic’ and will be remembered by all present for a long time. Talvin also heard the Advaita demo CD and was very impressed, promising to help promote the band.

We're still waiting Talvin.... 'like long ago, Amir Khusro, those kind of flows, those kind of flows......'

The show took place at the TVB Institute for Habitat Studies, Vasant Kunj and was an absolute spectacle, with around twelve musicians, three sound guys and an entire lights and visual effects team working together to try and attempt re-create the experience of a Floyd show.

The band and the concept has been initiated by Chintan of Parikrama and plans are being made to take the show all over India.

April 2006 : Gates of Dawn opens FC1 – a compilation CD of Delhi bands brought out by FIRST CITY
Loading... Loading... Loading... Loading...

Gates of Dawn, an electronic Advaita track, featuring vocal performances by Ravi Singh (guest vocalist, previously of the band Themclones) and our very own Ujwal Nagar (Hindustani Classical Vocals), is the opening track of the FC1 CD released by First City. The CD showcases original songs of ten bands from Delhi and is in our opinion a terrific initiative taken by the magazine to help the cause of the underground music scene in Delhi.

To promote the CD, a concert was held at Climax, a club in south Delhi where there were rocking performances by Advaita and Menwhopause. The bands also got to jamm onstage with Salman Ahmed of Junoon who was really enamoured by our sound. There were some glorious moments of ‘freestyle’ jamming between Arpan (bass), Suhail (Sarangi) and Salman.
