I love your music. You guys are individually and collectively brilliant. But I have to say that the sound @ Opus in BLR on Saturday was terrible.
I couldnt hear the lead guitar. The Sarangi went out for a bit. It was just terrible. I even heard people in the audience complain but the guy in the sound box (Nick?) shouted back that everything was allright and I think he said "they must be mad". Just after sound check.
I was sitting in front - just out of stage left - and I had brought friends to see you guys after I heard your music. I must say you did leave a great impression on them even with the bad sound, but really I think you should have done something to fix that.
With a template as rich as yours, poor sound is a very bad detractor.
Just something to think about. Maybe thats why no comments from BLR so far?
But you guys do rock. Come back again, and play at the HRC here next time. The sound is good there, and maybe you shouldnt bring that Nick guy.

Comments : Just returned from the gig at TISS, Mumbai. I spoke to one of the band members and told him that as I stood there listening to the band perform I felt an immense sense of pride at the fact that finally here were musicians who dared to be different, who had the courage to take risks, who chose to experiment, who rose above the mediocre and beyond all sensefulness and senselessness.
Your music has a sophistication and style that is unmatched. There are other bands in India who follow a predictable pattern. Even their fusions are heard-before-ones. But you guys are a fantastic amalgamation of different genres. And what stands out (which is outstanding) is the fact that you have 3 vocalists who sound so different and yet they merge together so beautifully. The rawness of Sohail Khan, the traditional ''old-school'' hindustani vocals of Ujwal and of course the versatile bouyant tones of Chayan...all weaving together a unique fabric of rich, pure music.
The drums were thunderous. Particularly in Milliha. This entire composition is a masterpiece. It sounds like it has been born from Nature - it has elements of fire (the frenzied sarangi, guitars and drums), water (the cool western vocals), air (the floating sounds emanating from the synthesizer) and earth (the hindustani vocals that kept the mind grounded). In fact all the songs are unique in their own rights.
I am indeed proud of the fact that we have a band that stands apart from the other purely because they make excellent, memorable music.

I do have one comment about the concert though. It is imperative that you hire a professional who can mix your songs well for the band to have an impact. I could barely hear the Tabla and the electric guitar. The bass guitar and the drums were too loud. The bass especially should be very subtle to have its best effect.
The vocals (of all three) and the Sarangi which were the most clearly audible ones were fantastic. I hope to see you guys in B''bay sometime.

Comments : Dear Advaita, good show at IHC on the 8th. A few random thoughts..
The english parts reminded me of Yes and DT, wonderful influences to have.The compositions got repetitive for me after a while, they followed a similar pattern. Complements for playing original music. Suhail deserves a special mention, i did not realize he comes from such a great lineage. Would like to see more edge of the seat playing and Shakti type interaction between the band; you have so much potential for this.

Can''t wait to hear the full songs. Have heard most of the songs before and I must say I am really addicted to most of them. The music grabs the soul and sets the spirit free. Mere Yaar and Miliha, these are two of my favourite songs from the album right now. ''Rasiya'', yet to hear the full song but starting of it is pretty nice and soothing.
The Hindustani vocalist, Ujwal Nagar, he''s got such a great voice. Amazingly deep and soulful. Keep up the good work Ujwal.
Best wishes to all the members of Advaital. I am sure you''ll all reach great heights.

Comments : You guys are simply awesome! I am not much into the Indian rock band scene, but you are one band I follow. Im there for most performances of yours'' at lodhi and was there at Kamani the other day. You guys are absolutely the most talented group of people I have seen/heard on the local loops in a long time! You are the perfect mix of artists who standout in their individual capacity as musicians. The drummer has amazing attention for detail and is brilliant. Suhail is a work of art and his occasional vocals are awesome too. I have no words to describe the hindi vocalist. He has the most awesome mic voice. Chayan sounds brilliant on alternate vocals. He sounds great on the track ''why''. Chayan however often ends up drowning his voice amongst all the other music/vocals. He should either work on being more loud in his singing, or maybe tip the guy at the mixer to prep his channel a notch or two :p He is barely audible at most times. Especially with the strong hindustani vocals he is often exchanging tags with. The guys on the bass are just as good if not better. And well awni.. toh studd hai. what to say. Studio mai no food items boss! :p
And btw, I love the embedded music player on yr site. I put songs on loop and listen throughout the day at times. March on, you guys! fuckin awesome you guys are. And put up a mailing list or something. I want to be able catch yr next performance.
p.s: not one word of what chayan sang, could be heard at kamani. befriend the guy on the mixer! :p

on a separate note- i am not sure if it was because of the acousists in the audi-but in some pieces, the instruments were converging a little too much (to sound like generic lounge music-not sure if the base was too loud) and one could really distinctly hear the instruments in particular the tabla. not sure if thats intended- but i think you wd stand apart if the individual instruments were accentuated a little more.

Comments : Hello, Your concert at IIt Delhi was indeed very good; the talent was quite obvious. I think the guy controlling the sound was a little ''off'' and was unable to strike a balance. The drums were far too loud and drowned everything else, throughout the show. Everybody wants to be heard at a gig but there are certain instruments that have to come across more subdued that the others. Lead guitarist - vey good but a little shy to come out with more improvisation and was far too soft. He could very easliy have made the crowd ''swing''. Same with bass guitarist and keyboards. Too little table, unfortunately. Sarangi also very good and was almost on the verge of getting the crowds on their feet. The vocalists could not be heard due to the drums. Comments : Hey! u guys rock man... iv seen one gig of urs- the one at lodhi...that was perfect, i was blown away.... the Indian touch is kick ass an the Indian vocalist is outta the world, imean ithink he overshadows the rest of the band once he starts singing... but i was very dissappointed witht eh EP u guys hav taken out.... just duznt sound like the same band somehow... for starters PLEASE INCLUDE DESERT RAIN AND GOVIND JAYA JAYA ! also, all the instruments cant br heard properly on ur EP.... just duznt sound half as good as it does live...spec the Indian vocalist, who i thought was the favourite part of the show for me... he duznt sound like himself... sometimes he sounds like Hari haran an sumtimes like shankar mahadevan...while he might take it as a compliment, wat i mean is that... that power an stature which is there in his voice just duznt come out n the EP...the finnesse comes out, but not the power... imean, if i give the CD to a person who hasnt seen a live show, he wudnt know how good u guys are...so please work on a better EP and keep gigging!also the tabla doesnt come out properly in the EP...imean ithink these 2- tabla and Indian vocals are the best part of ur band... so plase incorporate them better.... the tabla shd be heard better and the quality of the indian vocals shd be different... maybe deeper then wat they are on the EP...

You have produced your own sonic character so early in your career, that displays your respective talents, especially Anindo... he impresses me with his spaced out and ambient sounds. Your music is great – and I’ve been enjoying it while driving, though like someone else, I too missed the “Desert Rain” track. (BTW have you considered composing music for film scores?) I was reading some of the other comments and upping the “showmanship/stage presence” aspect seems to be a recurring suggestion. It’s true that simply seeing you chaps onstage doesn’t quite prepare one for the maturity of music one is going to hear, but in the spirit of looking at the entirety ;-) (you probably don’t want it to be forced or to overshadow your music and worst of all trivialise it) a concert is a performance - with all that that entails. Comments : SITE: cool site, relevant colours, nice fonts and easy navigation n downloads. On the text part, its well writtend except i think you could do without the Einstein theory, sounds a bit multi-layered. The only thing missing is some music bytes, you cud loop anything frm Hamsadhvani for a signature as well.
MUSIC: Pleasantly original and refreshingly indian. Never seen you perform live but i guess you guys would rock!!! Overall your sound is crisp, neat studio work too and yeah, the drummer sounds grooviest.
Just a suggestion on the vocal front, try to build on the aalaap a bit more like a crescendo especially towards the later part of your songs. I get the feeling that sometimes the vocalist is holding back a bit, just let it go yaar, you have a good strong voice. Keep up the brilliant work n keep me posted in case you have any plans to play in Bombay.
